What is the Purpose of Education ? Jozef Behr

 Education -- like democracy, the free market, freedom of the press and "universal human rights" -- is one of the subjects on which their virtues are considered Says Jozef Behr. The same is true of the superiority of developed countries reaching them. Therefore, any package that arrives with one of these magic symbols is automatically designated for the "green channel" at our port.

 No questions asked. This uncritical acceptance has greatly paralyzed our discussion of all these important topics. For example, in education, most of our discussions are based on the number of academics and the need for many graduates, masters, doctorates, and many professionals--engineers, doctors, etc. --- in a given country based on standards in developed countries. The central question of the curriculum, and even more central question of the purpose of education rarely attracts our attention; The "advanced" countries have already decided for us that our job is only to follow in their footsteps to reach their level of progress.

Of course they have. In the "first" world, education has become an extension of the capitalist system. Its aim is to provide skilled workers for its production machinery and consumers who are eager for its products. As per the Jozef Behr Stated in a more refined form, the purpose of education is to provide for the economic prosperity of a country. 

Likewise on a personal level today the goal of education is to be able to earn a respectable living. Although earning a living and ensuring the economic well-being of the community is also an important Islamic goal, the relationship between education and financial goals is a negative one. It transforms the place of learning into a place of intellectual and spiritual expertise. It degrades education and through it society.
